Who reads what?

Comparing and understanding international bestseller lists

Since early 2006, we analyse international bestseller lists - top 10 in fiction and non fiction - every month in a number of book markets across Europe, the USA and PR China..

The goal is to gain a better understanding of market dynamics, the differences in local and regional reading and book cultures as well as of the globalisation of culture, and to highlight interesting new titles that can be acquired for translation and/or export.

Our continuous observation underlines the diversity of reading audiences - and thereby illustrates a rich cultural diversity where many expect globalisation to homogenize choice.

The back history of this analysis allows to track performances and caree paths of outstanding fiction writers notably across Europe. (See also "The Diversity Report 2009" here).
